The person providing the help can help in whatever field of business and capacity that they are able, and usually they focus on areas in which they are highly gifted or have a considerable amount of expertise and experience.

For example, maybe you helped a friend polish their business’ marketing materials to solidify their brand and increase their client base because that’s your thing and you wanted to help them, whether or not they paid you for your assistance. Or maybe, as someone who is gifted in the areas of organization and administration, you took on the project of organizing and developing processes and work flows for the church down the street from your house, and you provided your services on a volunteer basis.
See, pretty straightforward. That’s it. In a nutshell, that’s the just of what consulting is. And It allows for quite a bit more flexibility in the working relationship between the parties involved and leaves a significant amount of space for creativity and vision to expand and flow.
